Sweet Land of Liberty

Author: Nell Berry 12/97

In this our beloved land, America, once so free,

a people of faith and truth, a land of liberty.

I yearn to see that grand old flag,

her banners, though tattered and torn,

Old Glory, victoriously waving, o'er every color and tongue.

Unfurled in the light of God's creation, o'er this battered and

bleeding land, raised as a banner of righteousness,

by God's providential hand.

Where once the light of freedom, beckoned as an open door,

through which the people of the world,

flocked to her golden shores.

The net of safety drew them in, as they sang a sweet refrain,

"America The Beautiful", with her fields of golden grain.

America, Oh America, where can we go from here?

There is no other land so free, no other land so dear,

no land in all the earth, so blessed and revered.

God bless America again, and shed His grace on thee.

Help us, Lord, restore to us, blessed land of liberty.

America The Beautiful, once more to hear them sing,

through every, town and hollow, once more to hear it ring,

"The Star Spangled Banner", oh long may she wave,

o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Father, we don't deserve it, we know we let her down;

we failed to preserve it, though your grace doth abound.

We humbly ask forgiveness, and earnestly seek your face.

Renew us by your Spirit, by your power and your grace.
