A member of the Police Department of the Brazos Balley, in Texas suffered an ambush yesterday, An officer from Calvert, Texas, was shot in the early hours of 2017, and a bulletproof vest likely saved his life. The police have since apprehended the suspect in the shooting, and the officer is recovering from the attack.
The Law Enforcement of Brazos Valley posted this notice on Facebook: “BREAKING NEWS: Calvert Police Officer ambushed and shot on duty New Year’s Day morning. Officer Stephen Magnes was shot and has been transported to a hospital in Bryan, Texas. Officer Magnes was wearing a vest and a suspect is in custody. Please pray for Officer Magnes who is a good friend to many of us here in the Brazos Valley.”
After the the last 6 months, in which tens of officers have been slain in gun fights, and over 20 have been the victim of ambush attacks, in which officers were targeted for the uniforms on their backs. The most recent of these attacks occurred in Tucson, Arizona, Tacoma, Washington and Georgia.
Police offices have also been shot in Sanibel, Florida, San Antonio, Texas, St. Louis Missouri, and Des Moines, Iowa in ambush attacks all happening in the last six weeks. Another officer was recently killed in Fairbanks, Alaska.
This does not even show how many officers have been injured this year, but the numbers are shocking. More officers have been killed in 2016 than in the last five years. This is truly shocking. Please pray for officers across the country!
