2016 was a year that many people are saying was the worst year in history for many reasons. Some of the big ones are the rise in terrorist attacks across the world. It seems like every month there is another mass shooting occurring in the states, in Europe, or in the Middle East. It is horrifying.
Now, on the eve of 2017, God gave a warning in the form of another mass shooting in the world. The attacker came wearing a Santa outfit, but he had a fully an assault riffle that he used to shoot over 35 people. People initially thought they were fireworks and headed towards the noise. They were killed.
Now we must pray for them and pray for yourself. God updates said it perfectly. I’ve got a few enemies. I’m not surprised, though, because Jesus said this will happen. And because of my sinful flesh, I get annoyed easily and simply have a difficult time loving certain people. I find that when I pray for them, my dislike for them leaves, and bitterness doesn’t get the best of me.
As Dietrich Bonhoeffer says, “I can no longer condemn or hate a brother for whom I pray, no matter how much trouble he causes me.”
God’s sign is a warning to us that we must keep praying for safety. We need to find a way to end these horrible things from happening, but until that we must pray for those we have lost. Will you pray for them?
