Glen Campbell is a country music hall of fame member. He has won countless musical awards, appeared on TV shows, at stadiums, before games, during half times, in movies, and much much more. But none of these things compare to the one thing many consider to be his masterpiece. That something was able to combine music, sadness, raw emotion, and what it feels like to be human into one piece of work. In the year 2014 Glen Campbell decided to make a documentary.
This decision came directly after his diagnosis. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and this shook his entire life. Glen was a relatively happy man. This diagnosis hit him hard, but he knew what he had to do. One last tour for himself, his fans, and his family. The entire tour would be documented. It was supposed to showcase Glen’s final goodbye to music, but it did so much more than that. It gave an inside look into the life of living with Alzheimer’s.
Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me became the title of the documentary. It is a good title because doctors warned Glen not to go on tour, but he was only being him. The documentary ended up winning a Grammy this past year for best Original song. The song, “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” was also nominated for an Academy Award. The moment Glen found out about his disease was captured on camera. It was a chilling moment….Glen, somehow, kept a sense of humor through it all. Did you love his music?
