"A Day of Sorrow"

In Memory of Those "Forever In His Hands"

It was the Eleventh day of September, In the year of our Lord, Two Thousand and One, To many just another day as usual, As New York was greeted by the morning sun.

Fathers finished their morning coffee, Then said their last goodbyes, Mothers left with a hug from children, Knowing not, it would be their day to die.

It seemed like business as usual, As meetings begin to convene, When suddenly a sound of terror, As a plane of doom crashed into the WTC scene.

Not knowing what had happened, People clung one to another, Race or color did not matter, Now they were all considered Brothers.

Friends searched for friends, While looking for a ray of light, As smoke and ash clouded up the air, In scenes of fear and fright.

Final calls were made to loved ones, Telling them a sad goodbye, While the walls began to shake and crumble, Amidst the sound of weeping and sighs.

The World looked on with tears of sorrow, Wishing this to be only a dream, But this was true; America now was under attack, By terrorists with plans and an unholy scheme.

Another crash with force and fire, And a building begin to crumble down, The second tower now hit by another plane, People wondered, "Would it too fall to the ground"?

People injured groped in darkness, Down dark stairs to escape their fate, While New York firemen started upward, In search of lives and someone's mate.

The Pentagon now a target, Was next hit by a plane of terror, As brave men struggled on another flight, Defeating the enemy, and preventing more sorrow.

Many that day died a hero, in efforts brave and true, Helping in the rescue, as the world listened to the news. The message across the airwaves, touched every heart that day, As people called for help, our world begin to pray.

Our Nation's Leader also shed a tear, And declared we were still land of the free, "We will go forth, conquer and prevail, One Nation united under God, With justice for all and liberty".
