God Today Devotions

May 22, 2003 (Cheryl's husbands birthday)

My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to a man's whole body.
Proverbs 4:20-22

Society is constantly changing. There are new fads, technology, and new beliefs which are continually bidding us to follow. Too often we are willing to be led like cattle into the same pasture. Our desire to be accepted can cause us to adopt and accept philosophies and fads, that are contrary to God’s word as our own. It may not be a conscious decision we make all at once, but over a period of time, it slowly finds its way to our hearts. The word of God instructs us how to live our lives, it is an endless treasury, filled with wisdom and understanding. It contains more than mere words, but words that penetrate our hearts and souls, preparing us for any situation, and preventing us from simply following after the masses. There is nothing good that God withholds from His children. We may enjoy the entertainment, gain wisdom from bestsellers, and enjoy the emotions and sounds of music, but we must always remember the leader we are following.

Prayer

In a world with so many distractions, help us to remain focused on You Lord. Engrave Your word upon our hearts. You are our leader, and the One we are following. Thank you for all the good and wonderful things you continually provide for us. Amen.
