God Today Devotions
February 7, 2003

For everyone born of God has overcome the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.
1 John 5:4

As we watch events in the world unfolding before us daily, and news reports reflecting the worst of each event, we may be left feeling hopeless, turning away complaining about how bad the world has become. It is very easy to forget that we know the answer the world needs. Jesus is the answer. It is just as easy to buy into the blame game, pointing the fault at politicians, the public school system, the courts, video games, music, etc. God dwells in the hearts and lives of each who have accepted His gift of grace through Jesus Christ. The changes we are demanding and anticipating will begin within each of us. The love of God that has been placed in our hearts is contagious and we can hope that it will some day become an epidemic. While it may be true that the world pounds us with a pessimistic view, we must remember that the world is blinded by the enemy for he is the god of this world, but we have the light of Jesus Christ within us, and He has overcome this world. He is greater than all.  We have a hope and we should concentrate on being vessels of the hope and good news of Jesus Christ to the world. With God abiding in us we can and will make a difference in our families, our country, and our world.

Prayer

May the actions of our lives reflect the light and hope of your love. Forgive us, our light has been hidden for much too long. Continue to change us in your image, allowing your light to shine so brightly that it becomes contagious and spreads throughout our families, our communities, and this world. The world needs hope and change, let it begin today within each of us. Amen.
