I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.
Romans 8:18

It is natural for us to attempt to avoid pain and distress. Especially when someone is experiencing pain that we love. Even our best intentions many times, can be found lacking true compassion. The paradigms that have been created in each of us from our youth, and society as well, have taught us to cover the pain. While it is always good to encourage, and paint a brighter picture, quite often those who are in pain, simply have a need to express it and to be heard. We want to have all the answers and make everything better, but the fact is, that Jesus is their answer, and will provide the healing for their pain. He looks on them with tenderness, ready to help. He will open their ears to His words of comfort, which are like no other, and fill them with peace and joy, silencing their fears and giving them hope. Our attempts to respond with a quick resolution can make them feel as if their pain has been ignored. Pain can accomplish good things in our lives, and be an avenue that reveals problems that require attention. Attempting to remove the pain without the benefit of experiencing it may appear to be very compassionate but in the long term is a disservice.

Prayer

Lord help us to be truly compassionate, listening, and allowing those in pain to express it. Stifling their cries won't make the hurt diminish. Instead of attempting to patch their wound, help us to usher them into your presence, where they will find the peace and healing that they need. In Jesus name we ask. Amen.
