For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
James 2:26

During the holidays, we will find ourselves spending more time with family and friends. More than ever, we need to be aware of the impact that our lives have on others. Our gestures, our actions, our inactions, all inadvertently speak words that can have an enormous impact on others. We have the ability to encourage, or cause pain. Our small day-to-day acts of kindness, hospitable gestures, all shout the presence of God in our lives. One of my favorite Christmas movies, is the heart-warming story, “It’s A Wonderful Life”. George Bailey finds himself discouraged, in financial distress, and feels that his life has made no difference to anyone. He attempts to take his life, when an angel intervenes and shows him how, even the smallest details of his life, has had dramatic effects in the lives of others. Now, while this is a fictional story, it reveals a truth that the small, and many times un-noticed, things we do and say, speak volumes and make a great deal of difference in the lives of others. Especially at Christmas, we will find many opportunities, to allow our faith to find hands and feet, and be put into action.

Prayer

Let all the things that we say we believe, be put into action, not just during the Christmas Season, but also all throughout the year. We thank you, for perfectly bringing together, every detail of our lives, and making us aware, that even the simple and mundane activities of our day make a difference. Help us to embrace with joy, all things, and may our actions and reactions always be with love, forgiveness and out of obedience to you. Amen.
