It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
John 6:33

We use words to communicate our thoughts and feelings to one another. God does the same through His word. He speaks His thoughts and feelings to us continually. The Bible is full of words, but it is not simply those printed words, that speak to a man's heart. It is instead the voice of a living God, that continually speaks through them, to the heart of His creation. Psalm 33:63 says "By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth". It would require more than printed words on paper, to perform such things. The written word of God, doesn't remain a best seller to this day, simply because some very talented writers composed a great book. It is because the words inspired through those pages, are still being spoken to the hearts of men. God speaks truth to our hearts, not words to our minds. We have all heard the testimonies and even sing the songs, about how words cannot express what is understood, or felt and experienced, when God speaks to your heart. His word penetrates our soul. Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. It is more than just words, but God's power behind His word, that causes them to come alive and deliver truth and understanding, and to bring joy, peace, and comfort.

Prayer

Speak to my soul, whisper your will to my heart. It is your counsel that I seek. Let all the sounds around me be silent, so that I can clearly hear your voice. My soul quietly waits for your life giving word. Amen.
