God Today Devotions ![]() August 23, 2002 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some
count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any
should perish but that all should come to repentance. Repenting is more than just saying I am sorry. It is opening the door of our soul and facing what we find. Sometimes it is like opening a closet door in which we have accumulated years of trash. Certainly not a pleasant experience. It is convenient for us to lock up a part of our souls so as not to expose the garbage inside. When we truly repent not only are we sorry but we are willing to acknowledge the mess in which we have found ourselves; and turn away from old attitudes and ways, and take hold of the new ones. It is easy to store away past events in our life and attitudes; we fear facing them; they seem like monsters in the closet. But once exposed in the light of Jesus Christ and examined and changed; there is no longer a need to hide anymore. God forgives and changes us. The only place for them to hide is under the blood of Jesus Christ. He covers them. Remembers them no more. He picks us up, and enables us to press forward. Our souls become free and at peace. Repentance is allowing God to clean the closet's of our souls. Prayer Give me the strength Lord to open the closet and face what is inside, allow it to be exposed in the light so that you may cleanse it of all that is not acceptable to you. I repent and turn away from the old and the past and anxiously await the new. I am more than sorry I desire to be changed. Thank you for mercy that picks me up when I fall down. Amen.
