God Today Devotions
Let the words of my mouth, and the
meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength,
and my redeemer. There are many issues today and everyone has an opinion about them. When we express our opinions we sometimes forget the power behind our words and the effect it has on those listening. Our words can bring comfort as well as distress and it is important that we are cautious in choosing them. The most effective way to control what we speak is by allowing our minds and hearts to be filled with the word of God, meditating on it and giving the Holy Spirit an opportunity to bring it alive within us. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. When our hearts are filled with the things of God, it will be evident in the words we speak. It is quite often said that we are what we eat and the same goes for what comes forth from our mouths. We are what we speak. Prayer Make us aware of the words we speak and the effect they have on those who are listening. Give us wisdom and help us to restrain our tongues. Fill our hearts and minds with your truth so that what we speak is seasoned, full of life and truth and will bring encouragement and comfort. Forgive us the times we have spoken impulsively and discouraged or hurt someone as a result. Amen.
