God Today Devotions
May 13, 2002
 O
that thou had hearkened to my commandments! Then had thy peace been as a
river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the see.
Isaiah 48:18
More than ever there are those who are choosing to abide together
outside the confines of marriage. It has become socially acceptable,
highly glamorized and esteemed as the sensible way to manage a
relationship. Increasingly people are choosing to ignore God's laws as
if they were put into place to prevent them from living life to its
fullest. The truth is God's laws are perfect and when we attempt to live
outside of them we are the ones who pay. God is not a tyrant sitting on
His throne and commanding us to abstain from pleasure. His laws are not
intended to confine us but to prevent us from experiencing the certain
anguish that comes from ignoring them. God's word says that marriage is
Holy, and we should not enter into it without much thought and
prayer. When you take those vows you are committed for life,
through the good, bad, and ugly. Divorce is devastating, anyone who has
been through one or known of someone who has understands that the depth
of devastation reaches far beyond the couple that has decided to
separate. Much of the turmoil we see today in families could be avoided
by adhering to the principals of God. It has cost us greatly to ignore
them. If we will place the principals of God first in our lives then our
marriages and our homes will reap the benefits of an unbreakable
bond.
Prayer
Let my heart not be deceived. Your ways Lord
are perfect and you do not change. I trust in your principals and
know that you have given them for me to follow out of your great
love. I choose to obey your word and apply it to my life
today.
