I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name and I will do it.
John 14:12-13

Many see this scripture as a way for God to serve us rather than us serving God. God created us for himself and made us in His likeness. We are to live our lives in obedience to His word that all we do should be according to His will. We are called to serve Him and all that we need to accomplish in that service will be supplied to us.
So many times this scripture's interpretation becomes twisted and changed to mean " if you are not healthy, wealthy, and wise your faith must be lacking. If you are not getting all that you want from God something is aria with your spirituality. I have heard statements like "God does not want His children poor." and if you were a Father wouldn't you make your children healthy, and give them wealth. Wealth does not buy happiness and it does it create integrity. Wisdom does. Being wise enough to trust in One greater than ourselves.  As a parent myself of four very wonderful children I understand the difficulty in saying no and not giving into their every wish. They are still not grown and their wisdom limited. There have been many things that are appealing to their eyes that I cannot allow them to have because with the wisdom God has given their Father and myself we see the danger or the consequences they can bring. Our children are secure in our love and know that we are always looking out for their good, so when the answer is no, they may not like it but they accept is.  God is our Father and just as our kids depend on us so we depend on Him. We can feel secure in His love and know that He will not withhold anything good from us. We may not always like it but we can trust that God in His infinite wisdom is always looking out for what is truly good and steering us away from what will destroy us.
This scripture is certainly not a blank check for us to fill out so that we may receive all that we desire. It should remind us that we serve Him and He is Almighty God, Creator of all. When our hearts desires become consumed in His will and for His glory there is not any doubt that we will have whatever we ask.

Prayer

You alone Lord are Holy; You are the Most High. I am humbled in your presence. I thank you for the times you have said no, and for the truly good and eternal things you have brought into my life. I place my faith is in You and Your wisdom. I surrender all to you. Allow your desires to become my desires that my life will bring glory and honor to God my Father. Amen
