For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or
authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before
all things, and in him all things hold together.
Colossians 1:16-17
Becoming self-absorbed causes us to become not only stationary but
stagnate. It causes a stench to begin to emit from our lives. The harsh,
but real fact is that life is not all about us and our personal
fulfillment. If we aren’t careful, we will find ourselves beginning to
seek the promises, instead of the promise Maker. Life is not always
great; we can find ourselves, on more than one occasion uncomfortable,
hurt and broken. This does not mean God is lacking. On the contrary,
God’s desire is to create us in the image of Christ. It is a process
that takes a lifetime. During this process, there are many different
roads we will travel, some of which we may not like, but all the same
they are beneficial to our growth. God is not our servant, but we are to
serve Him. It is instinctive to our nature, to desire control over our
own destiny. We want to be in charge of our circumstances, and the
people around us. It is only when we learn to submit to the authority of
God, we truly begin to understand, that every circumstance is an
instrument of instruction. The wisdom of His plan for our lives, reaches
beyond what we can think or imagine.
Prayer
Lord, I desire to grow in the knowledge of You, and to accomplish Your
will in my life. Help me to learn to submit my will to You; to surrender
all that I am, knowing that I will never face a difficult time alone;
that each detail of my life is in Your capable hands, being worked out
for my good and Your glory. Create my life to represent the attitude,
character, and values of Your Son, Jesus Christ.
