A scoffer does not love one who corrects him, Nor will he go to the wise.
Proverbs 15:12

It's not always easy to receive criticism or correction. The words often seem harsh or even unfair, but if we will receive them, instead of becoming defensive we will learn and grow from it. Most of the time, we allow ourselves to become angry because our feelings are hurt or our egos crushed. Not all criticism directed towards us is for our good. There are those whose sole purpose in saying something, is to make us angry. There is no need for us to oblige. But when the words are offered in love, it is then up to us to reflect on them and truly hear and receive them. If we ignore the wisdom and correction and stick our heads in the sand, we will stop growing and maturing. We can know without any doubt, correction or criticism that God intends for us, will be constructive and meant for our good. It is easy to ignore or avoid the truth about ourselves, but if we will allow our hearts to hear the instructions God has purposed and receive them, we will grow in wisdom and strength.

Prayer

Give us the strength and the courage to face criticism and to accept correction. We are sometimes afraid to face the truth about ourselves, it is easier to become angry and turn away, we need Your strength to receive and not hide from the life changing words offered in love. Amen.
