Daily Devotion January
30, 2002 We do not have the capability of creating pure hearts in ourselves or anyone else. That job belongs to God and He is more than willing to accomplish it if we are willing to surrender ourselves to Him and to face what is sometimes the painful truth about ourselves and the condition of our hearts. If we will confront the truth He reveals to us it opens the door for Him to remove what is impure while at the same time not destroying what is pure. He changes our motives, attitudes, and our actions. We can attempt to be good and make these kind of changes ourselves but they are not lasting changes until God purifies our hearts with His Spirit. We can tell others what they need to do and they can certainly attempt to live according to those standards, but they are short lived. If we desire to grow spiritually we must also desire to be changed and to allow God to perform surgery in our hearts. Surgery that removes all that will eventually destroy us. A pure heart generates a pure life, and impure heart a corrupt life. In the pure heart God dwells and the work of His hands is easily recognized. Prayer I place my heart in your skillful hands to create it pure. Holy Spirit reveal the truth to me about myself, show me where I lack, show me where my attitude needs to change, show me where my motives are wrong and selfish, perform any necessary surgery that will remove all the impurities that will destroy me. I desire a pure heart and only You My Lord can create my heart new. My heart rejoices in the work of Your hands. Amen. |
