Helpless

Silence filled the massive plastic prison. Fear and uncertainty flows through the tiny heart. Small eyes dart around, trying desperately to find a way out. Whiskers wiggle, and tiny feet carry the small creature around in repetitive circles. The small rodent looks up at a noise from above. There, staring down at it is a monstrously large head peering back at it. The huge being tells the mouse not to be afraid and it'll help it. Yeah right. Seeing a creature 100 times larger would scare anything half to death. The massive person reaches in after the mouse with a hand that alone is at least twice the size. Upon gently lifting the rodent out of the trash can, the human continues to try to comfort the little creature. Their attempts are futile. Even upon releasing the mouse outside, it scurries away without so much as a look over it's shoulder of thanks. How could the person have comforted the scared animal? Talk it's language? Become another mouse and plot an escape rout to safety? Yeah right. Like anyone would want to give up what they are and become some pathetic, inferior, weak, stupid little animal just to help one thing of the species. Well, now let's scale up this story and see that in fact someone did just that. Someone gave up all the benefits and pluses of what they are, and became that weak, helpless little nothing. His name is Jesus Christ. Jesus gave up unbeatable cosmic power. He gave up the wisdom, the strength, and ever benefit he had and became a human. Why? Because he needed to help save a whole planet full of trapped "mice." He extended a timeless hand that offered a way out of the deepest trash can for us all. The hand had been there prior to Christ's birth, but to many people, God was that huge scary head looking down at us. He offered the world help, but many ran or showed no gratitude nor even a look over their shoulder. Until, Jesus came. Jesus stepped into the shoes of an inferior life form. For the first time, he was hungry and thirsty. For the first time, He had breath, and had to sleep. He became one of us, so we would not only be able to accept him easier, but we would not be afraid. Still though, people have continued to reject him. Claim he's just another mouse, and some even call him a rat that's spreading disease. Proverbs 1:32-33 reads "For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm." This verse tells us that we must not fear the will of God. We must not fear in accepting him. We must take the leap of faith and climb into the hands of not only a fellow mouse, but a warm loving hand of unspeakable power. However, climbing on for the ride is not enough. Being a Christian is not the same as living the life of one. Although not as prevalent as society likes to pretend it is, hypocrisy in the church does in fact turn many away from believing. We read His word. We learn his word. We believe his Word. We must also live his word. In doing so, we must profess our faith to others, and continually strive to grow in our faith. So to my fellow Christians, I plead with you to reflect on yourselves. Have you climbed onto that huge hand? And more importantly, are you the trembling mouse that'll run away without looking over your shoulder, or are you going to stay there, and trust in God?

The prayer Dear Holy father. Lord, thank you for extending your hand to me. Thank you for coming to earth as a human, living the life of a human, and dying as a human. Without doing that I may not know your love and grace today. Lord, I pray that you please bless me and my brothers and sisters in You, that we learn to put our trust in You. That we learn to not run away, or just simply believe, but that we also live a life worthy of the gifts you've given us. Be with me as I go through these days, and help guide me to set an example in accordance with your will. In your most precious and Holy name, Amen.
